A modem (modulate demodulate) is a piece of hardware equipment that modulates an analog signal to encode digital information. It'll also demodulates the analog signal to decode the digital information.

I have a question.

I have dsl, but it dosent use a modem. what i am wondering is, can you set up a router or something if you dont have a modem.
 
If you cant, can you let me know what i would need for it. I am looking into getting xbox live

can I install ATT DSL on one line in my home and still keep my Comcast Phone service for my regular home phone?
 
Currently we have one phone line and dialup with aol...
